At Mac’s Barbershop, we believe in the power of prayer to change lives. Mac has experienced firsthand how faith, hard work, and dedication can transform a person’s journey.
Mac comes from a large, loving family. In 1962, his parents moved to the Hampton Roads area in search of a better life for their children. His father found work in a local barbershop, where Mac was first introduced to the barbering world as a young shoeshine boy. Captivated by the energy and camaraderie in the shop, he quickly developed a deep appreciation for the barbering experience.
As he got older, Mac sharpened his skills and earned his Master Barber Certification shortly after graduating from high school. He began his professional career at Essence Barbershop, where he worked for several years. Eventually, stepping out on faith, Mac opened his own shop in Denbigh with his beloved wife, Carol, by his side.
In 1994, Mac’s Barbershop was born. Together, Mac and Carol built a strong team of talented barbers committed to serving a diverse clientele. Carol, who has since passed, was not only Mac’s partner in business but also the anchor of his life and dreams. With her support and vision, the shop grew into a thriving cornerstone of the community.
Through prayer and perseverance, Mac continued to grow the business. In 2000, he opened Mac’s Barbershop Two in downtown Newport News. By 2005, Mac’s Three opened its doors in Williamsburg—each location created to serve the growing needs of the Hampton Roads community.
Today, Mac continues to serve with purpose, focusing on a single location in downtown Newport News. This flagship shop now includes a barber academy, where Mac pours his years of wisdom and experience into the next generation of barbers. His mission remains the same: to provide a safe, welcoming, family-oriented space for everyone.
At Mac’s, we truly believe that prayer changes things—and Mac’s journey is living proof.
